SoBS Conducts Inspection and Awareness Campaign at Bakara Vegetable Market
On 2026-11-03 in Mogadishu, the Somali Bureau of Standards inspected and raised awareness at Bakara Vegetable Market to safeguard the quality and safety of produce sold to the public.

Mogadishu, 3 November 2026 — The Market Inspection and Monitoring Department of the Somali Bureau of Standards (SoBS) conducted an inspection and public awareness campaign at Bakara Vegetable Market as part of the Agency’s efforts to protect the quality and safety of products used by the Somali public.
The inspection focused in particular on verifying the quality of vegetables sold in the market, amid recent concerns about certain practices used to ripen fruits and vegetables ahead of their natural time through methods that do not comply with food quality and safety procedures.
During the inspection, SoBS officials provided awareness to traders and market workers on the importance of maintaining product quality, avoiding practices that may harm public health, and complying with standards and quality regulations.
SoBS reminded traders that they bear responsibility for ensuring the quality and safety of the products they offer to the public, and for avoiding anything that could undermine consumers’ health.
The Agency also called on the public to remain vigilant about products whose quality has not been verified, and to submit complaints and information related to anything they suspect may affect food quality and safety.
SoBS stated that it will continue inspections, monitoring, and awareness activities across the country’s markets to ensure that the Somali public has access to high-quality products with assured safety.
