How the Somali Bureau of Standards handles information collected through sobs.gov.so

Last updated: 17 September 2026

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how the Somali Bureau of Standards (SoBS), the national standards body established under the Somali Standards and Quality Control Act No. 27 of 2020, handles information collected when you use this website (sobs.gov.so). It applies to the public website only. Applications, certificates and accounts on the SoBS Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) at imis.sobs.gov.so are governed by the terms and privacy notices published on that portal.

2. Information we collect

  • Information you provide — when you use the contact form (name, email address, subject and message) or subscribe to the standards bulletin (email address).
  • Technical information — standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and the date and time of access, used to keep the website secure and available.
  • Analytics information — aggregated, non-identifying usage statistics collected only if you accept analytics cookies (see section 4).

3. How we use information

  • To respond to enquiries submitted through the contact form.
  • To send the standards bulletin to subscribers who have requested it. You can unsubscribe at any time by contacting us.
  • To operate, secure, maintain and improve the website and understand which content is most useful to the public.
  • To comply with legal obligations applicable to a public institution of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

SoBS does not sell personal information and does not use website information for commercial advertising.

4. Cookies

This website uses two categories of cookies and similar browser storage:

  • Essential — required for the website to function, including remembering your cookie choice. These cannot be switched off.
  • Analytics — help us understand how visitors interact with our content. These are set only if you choose “Accept all” in the cookie notice.

You can change your choice at any time:

5. Sharing of information

Information is shared only with service providers that host and operate this website on our behalf, or where required by law. Contact-form and newsletter data are stored on SoBS-controlled systems and are accessible only to authorised SoBS staff.

6. Retention and security

Contact-form messages are retained for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and for record-keeping in line with SoBS administrative requirements. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and audit logging of administrative actions — to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration or loss.

7. Your choices

You may ask SoBS to access, correct or delete the personal information you have provided through this website, or to unsubscribe from the standards bulletin, by contacting info@sobs.gov.so. We will respond within a reasonable period.

8. Changes to this policy

SoBS may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date of the latest revision is shown at the top of this page. Continued use of the website after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
