SOBS Holds Engagement Meeting with Microfinance Institutions to Strengthen Quality Standards and Financial Sector Cooperation

The Somali Bureau of Standards (SOBS) hosted a meeting with representatives of microfinance companies and the leadership of the Somali Microfinance Association to strengthen cooperation, promote quality standards, and explore opportunities for certification and capacity-building within the financial services sector.

SOBS Holds Engagement Meeting with Microfinance Institutions to Strengthen Quality and Institutional Cooperation Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali Bureau of Standards (SOBS) hosted a meeting at its headquarters with representatives from microfinance companies and the leadership of the Somali Microfinance Association to discuss strengthening cooperation and improving quality practices within the sector. The meeting was opened by the Secretary General of the Somali Bureau of Standards (SOBS), Mr. Guled Mohamed Rashid, accompanied by the Director of Administration and Finance and the Director of Standards Development and Trade Facilitation. Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between SOBS and microfinance institutions, including promoting access to certification services based on quality standards, strengthening institutional capacity, and organising Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes to support knowledge development within the sector. The meeting provided an important platform for dialogue between SOBS and financial service providers on the role of quality management systems, standardisation, and continuous improvement in strengthening the performance and reliability of institutions operating in Somalia. The Somali Bureau of Standards (SOBS) reaffirmed its commitment to expanding cooperation with financial institutions, private sector organisations, and other stakeholders to promote quality improvement, support productivity, and contribute to sustainable economic growth in Somalia. SOBS continues to work towards strengthening Somalia’s National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) by encouraging the adoption of standards, improving conformity assessment systems, and supporting organisations in achieving excellence and competitiveness.
