SOBS Participates in EAC Technical Committee Meeting on Quality Assurance and Harmonised Border Sampling Procedures

SOBS Participates in EAC Technical Meeting to Strengthen Regional Quality Assurance and Trade Facilitation Kampala, Uganda — 16–19 June 2026 – A delegation from the Certification Department of the Somali Bureau of Standards (SOBS), led by the Director of Certification and National Quality Marks, participated in a meeting of the Technical Sub-Committee on Quality Assurance of the East African Community (EAC) Partner States. The meeting focused on strengthening regional cooperation in quality assurance and developing common procedures to improve the efficiency of conformity assessment activities across EAC member states. During the meeting, participants developed the draft “EAC Harmonised Procedure for Sampling and Monitoring of Samples at the Borders”, which aims to establish a unified approach for product sampling and monitoring at border points within the region. The harmonised procedure is intended to facilitate the movement of goods across EAC borders, reduce delays faced by traders, and improve efficiency in the verification and quality control processes applied to products entering and moving within the region. The participation of SOBS reflects Somalia’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, aligning quality assurance practices with international approaches, and supporting trade facilitation through effective standards and conformity assessment systems. The Somali Bureau of Standards (SOBS) continues to engage with regional and international partners to strengthen Somalia’s National Quality Infrastructure (NQI), promote safe trade, and enhance the competitiveness of Somali products in regional markets.
