Somalia Participates in ISO General Assembly 2026 in Paris
A high-level Somali delegation led by SoBS Director General Ms. Hawo Ahmed Hassan participated in the ISO General Assembly 2026 in Paris, strengthening Somalia’s engagement in international standardization, trade facilitation and global standards development.

Paris, France, 2 October 2026
A high-level delegation led by Ms. Hawo Ahmed Hassan, Director General of the Somali Bureau of Standards (SoBS), participated this week in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) General Assembly held in Paris, France.
The General Assembly, held under the theme “Creating Trust that Transforms the World,” focused on the role of international standards in facilitating global trade and supporting technological advancement, with particular attention to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in trade and standardization.
During the Assembly, Somalia presented a report highlighting the role of the Somali Bureau of Standards in international standards development and its efforts to align standardization activities with Somalia’s national economic and infrastructure priorities.
Somalia also participated, for the first time, in the voting process during the ISO General Assembly elections, marking an important milestone in the country’s growing engagement within the international standardization community.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, the Director General of SoBS held bilateral meetings with representatives of the national standards bodies of Türkiye and Italy, as well as the International Trade Centre (ITC).
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation, facilitating trade, expanding market access opportunities, and promoting greater harmonization of standards.
The Somali Bureau of Standards remains committed to strengthening the safety and quality of products manufactured in Somalia, supporting national production and enhancing the competitiveness of Somali products in regional and international markets.
